When First Savings Bank acquired the deteriorated building it had water entering the building through the existing EFIS cladding, the original finish was worn and weathered, and there were visible patches where attempts had been made to repair the exterior skin.

The client’s primary objective was to convert this unoccupied multi-tenanted building from a non performing liability to a valuable asset at a fraction of the cost and time required for demolition and rebuilding.  Heavy solid stone was not an option as it would have required extensive reinforcing of the existing structure.

The client was able to modify the existing facade by specifying StoneLite® Blue Pearl granite panels. By selecting StoneLite®, the building’s exterior steel stud framing could remain in place.

While the building has undergone tenant changes and is now home to Provident Bank the exterior remains as beautiful today as when it was installed in 1997.

LEXUS OF THOUSAND OAKS

StoneLite® Impala Black granite panels were manufactured with a flamed and blushed finish to compliment other platinum hued materials. The flaming process not only changed the color to a more platinum hue but provided a textural element. A significant number of panels included 1, 2 and 3 sided returns up to 5” creating the monolithic appearance of dimensional stone. Panels were installed on the exterior facade, interior, columns, interior soffit, and parapet.

OVERFORMYNDERIET

The Ministry building adjacent to the Parliament was historically significant and needed to undergo restoration as the substrate was failing and the exterior façade was being held in place with surface fasteners. The goal was to maintain the Greenland marble on the exterior but replacing it with newly mined material was not an option as the quarry was closed in the 1920s.

The existing Greenland marble was removed from the exterior and shipped to Texas where it was fabricated into StoneLite® panels. Lightweight stone plugs were manufactured to insert into the holes created by the surface fasteners. Some corner panels required a fixed curved and were fabricated to a radius of 11’-1” and 7’-9”.

The StoneLite® panels lightweight properties are a natural solution to architectural features where weight may be an issue.

The project won Best Housing (Large) in the AJ Retrofit Awards 2012 and a Blue Ribbon Award for Best Apartment.
